"Who are you?
Why are you here?
For me?
Why me?
But... but you're dead!"
Josh Konnely sits alone on the altar steps of a dusty old church, likely abandoned decades ago. This small sanctuary sits on the outskirts of Prague in the Czech Republic. Josh glances over his shoulder as if looking at someone or something unseen.
"You expect me to believe that? That dead people care about my career? Even I barely care anymore.
You aren't alone? What do you mean you aren't alone?"
"You will see. But first, you have work to do."
The unseen entity responds
"Alright, alright. It feels like I've been here before, but let's get it over with."
Josh climbs to his feet and walks over to the dry-rotted and cobweb-laden pulpit. He opens a waiting Bible, and begins to read from it.
"What causes fights and quarrels among you? Don’t they come from your desires that battle within you? You desire but do not have, so you kill. You covet but you cannot get what you want, so you quarrel and fight. You do not have because you do not ask God. When you ask, you do not receive, because you ask with wrong motives, that you may spend what you get on your pleasures.
You adulterous people, don’t you know that friendship with the world means enmity against God? Therefore, anyone who chooses to be a friend of the world becomes an enemy of God. Or do you think Scripture says without reason that he jealously longs for the spirit he has caused to dwell in us? But he gives us more grace. That is why Scripture says:
'God opposes the proud
Submit yourselves, then, to God. Resist the devil, and he will flee from you. Come near to God and he will come near to you. Wash your hands, you sinners, and purify your hearts, you double-minded. Grieve, mourn and wail. Change your laughter to mourning and your joy to gloom. Humble yourselves before the Lord, and he will lift you up."
Josh pauses a moment, glancing in the direction of the unseen entity.
"This is from James 4, verses 1-10. The message here is clear. The gifts of the world are not for the proud, but for those who forsake and abandon the sins of pride and property.
Emerson and myself are two such men. And yet Emerson has questioned why he should come out on Titans to face me, stating that nobody cares what he does out there. My message to Emerson is this: what does it matter what anyone else thinks? We have a job to do, and our job is sports entertainment. Our job is to entertain the masses. Any other bullshit doesn't matter. The question of the day is can you and I go out there and have a fight that will get the crowd in Prague fired up? Dare I say, can we steal the show?
In mixed martial arts there are often bonus cash prizes for Fight of the Night, Knockout of the Night, and Submission of the Night? Emerson, can you and I go out there on Titans and put on the Fight of the Night? When we go before Caesar, will we two Titans win his favor with the show we put on?
Emerson, I do not wish to offend, but you are virtually nameless. Not just in wrestling, but in life. You go by the name Emerson, which either as a surname or given name means 'son of Emery.' As someone who was born a Johnson- the second most common surname in the United States- I can somewhat relate. Still, it makes me wonder why someone would want to wrestle under the name Son of Emery? Is that supposed to be like the Son of Sam? It just seems weird to me. Maybe we could get you a tag team partner called Samson. That would really be intimidating.
Well, maybe not, because I'd be the Delilah to your Samson.
Bad jokes aside, I look forward to competing again on Titans. Unlike you, I look forward to our match this week. I am ready to tear the T-Mobile Arena to the ground and dial up a victory.
Emerson, you have way more to worry about than just who does or doesn't care about what you do, or whose cat you had to pull out of a tree. Cats always land on their feet, so you have just fired a shotgun into the tree. The only reason they get stuck up there is because they are afraid to jump down. A shotgun blast would surely make that kitty take the leap. I'm just sayin'.
Or, if you really want to go extreme, just set the tree on fire. Who the Hell wouldn't jump out of a burning tree?
But I digress. The bottom line is the main gist of basically every wrasslin' promo ever done: I will win.
I am haunted by the ghosts of my past, and their spirits stand behind me."
At that moment, the apparitions of three people appear on the altar behind Konnely. Two of them are young women, and the other is a man who bares a strong resemblance to Josh himself. Konnely looks amazed and saddened, but shakes off the feelings to speak again.
"See Emerson, although our battle on Titans is one-on-one, I will not be coming alone. I am the Park City Prophet, and my prophesy is that you will submit to my indelible spirit."
Fade to white.
